Samantha (Sam) Sears is Deputy General Counsel, and her practice primarily includes providing legal advice and counsel to Research & Economic Development and Academic Affairs. Prior to assuming her current position, she served as Associate General Counsel at the University of Oregon and Assistant General Counsel at Oregon State University and as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights in Atlanta, Georgia. Before transitioning to higher education law, she was a general litigation and trial practice associate at Alston & Bird, LLP, in Atlanta, Georgia. She is licensed to practice law in Georgia, Louisiana, and Oregon, and holds a B.A. from the University of Alabama, an M.A. from the University of British Columbia, and a J.D. from Tulane University School of Law.
