University Policy 306, Research Utilizing Human Subjects

Revisions to this University Policy

  1. change the name of the committee that reviews proposed research with human subjects to the Institutional Review Board for Research on Human Subjects (“IRB”),
  2. designate the Associate Provost for Research to appoint members of the IRB committee (rather than the Provost), and
  3. add the new regulatory requirement that all investigators named in the protocol, including students, complete approved training on the use of human subjects in research.



University Policy 603.2 , Contracting with State Employees or Relatives of State Employees

This revision involves adding the North Carolina Administrative Code requirement that purchases must be pre-approved by the State Procurement Office before they are made from or through individuals who are also University or State of North Carolina employees.



University Policy 402, Student Education Records (FERPA)

The word “class” was added to the definition of “Directory Information” to make it consistent with what currently appears in the University Catalog.



University Policy 301, Patent Policy

Status: Revised

Revisions to the University Policy a) simplify the document without altering its intent, b) include current operating procedures and practices of the Office of Technology Transfer, c) replace text that is redundant with text in the associated Board of Governors’ policy, and d) provide a web-based link to that policy.Language has been removed that required certain recommendations made by the Patent Committee be approved in writing by the Chancellor.



University Policy 407, Code of Student Academic Integrity

University Policy 102.1 , External Professional Activities of Faculty and Other Professional Staff

The revisions a void repeating language from the Board of Governors’ policy that is now easily accessible by the entire campus community via the Internet.The result is a much shorter version of the Policy.



University Policy 407, Code of Student Academic Integrity

Status: Revised

Revisions address the composition of the Academic Integrity Board (AIB) by increasing the number of faculty members serving on the AIB from twelve to thirteen to account for the addition of the new College of Information Technology. Additionally, to be consistent with recent changes in the UNC Charlotte Tenure Policies and Regulations, the number of faculty members appointed from each college is in proportion to the number of full-time faculty members with professorial rank in each college. Finally, the authority to appoint members to the AIB other than the Chair is delegated to the Senior Associate Provost.



University Policy 101.6 , Retirement Procedures and Regulations

Substantive revisions reflect a department name change, an update to the Optional Retirement Program and investment carriers, a requirement that employees who are members of TSERS file an application for retirement at least 90 days prior to the established retirement date, removal of an obsolete paragraph from the policy, a reference to the Phased Retirement Program and modified procedures.

Revisions reflect that 1) Computing Services will maintain an up-to-date list and reference file of supported software packages licensed to the University, which will be available for inspection by any member of the University community, 2) Business Affairs will maintain a list of software licensed by individual departments within the University, and 3) individuals who allocate the use of and access to UNC Charlotte computing and network resources must ensure that all users are aware of restrictions and obligations imposed by the applicable license agreements
