University Policy 101.16 , Research Appointments

In these revisions 1) the term "Research Postdoctoral Fellow" has been changed to "Postdoctoral Fellow;" 2) the word "should" has been changed to "must" to reflect the requirement that Postdoctoral Fellows hold a doctoral degree or the equivalent; and 3) language has been added to clarify the process for hiring Postdoctoral Fellows.

University Policy 714, Biosafety

Status: Revised

The revisions to this University Policy emphasize and better define how the biosafety process is managed on campus by addressing

  1. Institutional committee responsibility for approval, registration, use, handling, and management of biohazardous agents and recombinant DNA molecules;
  2. Investigator responsibility for approval, registration, possession, and use of biosafety level 2 agents, biosafety level 3 agents, Select Agents, and recombinant DNA;
  3. Responsibilities of the Office of Research Services; and
  4. The list of biohazardous agents designated as "Select Agents" in the Code of Federal Regulations. That list is provided as Attachment A to the policy statement.  UNC Charlotte currently does not use or contemplate use of any Select Agents.  If a request for use of a Select Agent arises in the future, procedures must be implemented to comply with federal regulations applicable to that group of agents.



University Policy 102.11 , Non-Salary Compensation for Employees Exempt from the State Human Resources Act

This University Policy revision includes the requirement that the President of the University of North Carolina has the authority to make all decisions concerning non-salary compensation to be provided to the Chancellor.



University Policy 307, [Responsible Use of University Computing and Electronic Communication Resources-REPLACED BY Standard for Responsible Use]

Status: Revised

This University Policy is revised to add two new sections: “Authorization” and “Appropriate Uses,” in addition to adding a list of activities that constitute violations of the policy. The new section on Authorization sets forth the function of the user ID and password. The section on Appropriate Uses provides a list of examples of uses of computing and network resources that the University encourages. The Policy provides specific examples of policy violations to assist users in identifying inappropriate uses.



University Policy 601.14 , Proprietary Software

Status: Revised

This University Policy is revised to add provisions related to copying software, complying with software license agreements, and monitoring of software inventory on University computers.



University Policy 302, Web Communications

Status: Revised

This new University Policy sets standards for responsible use of the University website, web page format, accessibility, links to non-University websites, use of the University name and registered marks on the University website, hosting of websites for external entities, University data, and individual web pages on the University website.



University Policy 303, [Network Security-REPLACED BY Standard for Communications Security]

Status: Approved

This new University Policy is intended to ensure secure and reliable network access and performance for the University community. It addresses Internet addressing and domain services, network connections, internal services, network security, monitoring and auditing. The Policy also sets forth enforcement procedures and provides for the Chancellor to appoint a Network Security Committee to review the Policy on a regular basis and to ensure that it may be fairly interpreted and enforced.



University Policy 304, Electronic Communication Systems

The purpose of this new University Policy is to ensure the appropriate use of the University’s email systems by its students, faculty, and staff.  It addresses personal use of email, limitations on the use of email, archiving email, official University email communications, and user responsibilities.
