Executive Summary

This University Policy covers voluntary and involuntary relinquishments of duties by Senior Academic and Administrative Officers, as identified at UNC Charlotte in University Policy 102.9, with the exception of the Chancellor. In accordance with Board of Governors Policy 300.1.6 and Regulation 300.1.6[R], University Policy 102.8 addresses four circumstances of voluntary and involuntary relinquishments of duties by SAAOs (other than the Chancellor): retreat to a faculty position, reappointment of an administrator without faculty retreat rights, separation from the University, and retirement.

I.  Introduction

This policy covers voluntary and involuntary relinquishments of duties by Senior Academic and Administrative Officers, as identified at UNC Charlotte in University Policy 102.9 (hereinafter “SAAOs”). 

II.  Policy

1.  SAAOs Other than the Chancellor

Voluntary and involuntary relinquishments of duties by SAAOs other than the chancellor, including retreat to a faculty position; reappointment of an administrator without faculty retreat rights; separation from the University; and retirement, are handled in accordance with The University of North Carolina Board of Governors Policy 300.1.6  and Regulations 300.1.6[R] (adopted 03/21/03, for SAAOs hired prior to May 2, 2010) and 300.1.6[R] amended 05/02/10, for SAAOs hired after May 2, 2010).

2.  Chancellor

Voluntary and involuntary relinquishments of duties by the chancellor, including retreat to a faculty position; reappointment of the chancellor without faculty retreat rights; separation from the University; and retirement, are handled in accordance with The University of North Carolina Board of Governors Policy 300.1.6.2 and Regulation 300.1.6[R] (adopted 03/21/03, for a chancellor hired prior to May 2, 2010) and 300.1.6[R] (amended 05/02/10, for a chancellor hired after May 2, 2010).
